Dane County is fortunate to have an adequate supply of high quality groundwater. Groundwater is the source of a public and domestic water supplies. Protection of groundwater resources is critically important for drinking water, and for agricultural production and industry. The Dane County Groundwater Protection Plan (PDF), Appendix G to the Dane County Water Quality Plan prepared by the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission, includes an inventory and assessment of physical resource conditions, water quality data, pollution sources, existing groundwater management controls, and recommendations for addressing threats to groundwater quality.
